KAEMP 8848 · Kathmandu, Nepal
Our Story
Born in Nepal. Made in Nepal.
Made for wherever you go next.
Born in Nepal.
Built for the mountains.
Some brands come to the Himalayas to test their equipment.
We come from here.
KAEMP 8848 was born in Nepal — beneath the world’s highest mountains, among the people who know them not as destinations, but as home.
This is where our story begins.

Before the name
Before there was KAEMP 8848, there was experience.
For years, our founder Prabin Thapa and his team in Kathmandu worked behind the scenes, manufacturing garments for international clients and learning the craft piece by piece.
- Patterns
- Fabrics
- Insulation
- Construction
- Fit
- Zippers
- Seams
But eventually, making products for somebody else’s name was no longer enough. There was a bigger question.
Why couldn’t Nepal build a mountain brand of its own?
A brand of our own
Nepal has given the outdoor world some of its greatest mountains, guides, climbers and stories. Yet so much of the equipment used in these mountains arrived carrying names from somewhere else.
Prabin wanted to change that. Not by imitating the world’s established outdoor brands. By building one from Nepal.
- Its own identity.
- Its own products.
- Its own knowledge.
- Its own name.
KAEMP 8848. Created in Kathmandu and shaped by the mountains surrounding it.

8,848m
The number needs little introduction. For generations, it represented the height of Mount Everest — Sagarmatha — the highest point on Earth.
For us, 8848 is more than a number. It represents where we come from. The altitude, extremes and ambition of the Himalayas have influenced the way we think about equipment from the very beginning.
Because when your backyard contains some of the most demanding environments on Earth, performance cannot simply be a marketing statement.
It has to work.
Made in Nepal
Our story was never meant to end with a Nepali name printed onto a product made somewhere else. For KAEMP 8848, where something is made matters.
Our products are developed and manufactured in Kathmandu, Nepal, by people whose knowledge has been built through years of working with technical garments.
- Behind every jacket are hands.
- Behind every seam is experience.
- Behind every finished piece is a team of craftspeople who have helped build this company from the ground up.
We believe more of the value created by the mountains should remain with the country those mountains call home. So we continue to build here.
Developed in Nepal.

Created with the mountains
A technical jacket cannot be understood completely from a drawing. Eventually, it has to leave the factory. It has to meet —
Wind. Snow. Ice. Altitude. Long approaches. Cold mornings.

…and people who depend on what they are wearing. From the beginning, KAEMP 8848 products have been given to mountaineers, guides and athletes to use in real conditions. Their experience comes back to us.
- A pocket moves.
- A cut changes.
- A detail becomes simpler.
- A problem becomes a better product.
Then we return to the mountain and do it again.
Our founder once described KAEMP 8848 as a brand created by him with the help of mountaineers. That philosophy remains part of how we work today.
Not designed from a distance
The Himalayas are not imagery we discovered for an advertising campaign. They are part of our everyday environment.
The people testing our equipment may be preparing for another season in the mountains. The people building it are here in Kathmandu. And many of the places that give our products their names can be found on the same map as our home.
These names mean something to us. They remind us that every product carries a small piece of Nepal with it wherever it goes.

Built by people
Machines can make production faster. They cannot replace experience.
KAEMP 8848 has grown alongside generations of craftspeople whose knowledge lives in details most people may never notice.
- The curve of a pattern.
- The tension of a seam.
- The placement of insulation.
- The way a zipper sits.
The difference between something that looks technical and something that has been properly built.
Our people are not hidden somewhere at the end of a supply chain. They are KAEMP 8848.
And we believe that taking care of the people who build the company is part of building a better company.
From Kathmandu to the world
What started in Nepal did not stay in Nepal. Over the years, KAEMP 8848 equipment began travelling beyond the Himalayas, reaching customers, partners and mountain communities across international markets.
But expansion was never about becoming less Nepali. It was about showing how far something made here could go.
- From Kathmandu workshops to European mountains.
- From Himalayan expeditions to cities thousands of kilometres away.
Different landscapes. The same name inside the jacket.

We don’t design for a season
Mountains don’t care what season a jacket was released. And neither do we.
Good equipment earns its place over time.
- Worn
- Tested
- Repaired
- Improved
- Taken higher
- Used again
We would rather continuously improve a product that works than replace it simply because another season has arrived.
Because the goal was never to create more. The goal is to create better.
Mountains teach you something quickly.
Conditions change. Plans fail. The summit is never guaranteed.
What remains is effort. The decision to continue. To improve. To try again. To make the next piece better than the one before it.
That belief has followed us from our earliest days in Kathmandu to every mountain, city and country our products have reached. And it will follow us wherever we go next.
Effort
never dies.
